Harvest Season Is Over For This Year and We Move On To Other Duties

Now that Fall is upon us and Winter is closing in fast, the work in he fields is finished for the most part. Hopefully we’ll have more time to keep our blog up. The work is never done however. During this time of year our focus shifts to the other side of our operation. That being the creation of Handmade 19th Century Reproductions. We have been doing this for many years now and it has become a significant means for helping to offset the cost of running the farm. Operating what most consider a “charity type of farm” doesn’t come cheap. This year a larger portion of the crops went to our local Senior Center and of course some went to the local Harvest Project as usual.

The items we create are made from reclaimed and recycled wood and lumber. The vast majority of which comes from old buildings, many of which are close to 100 years old or even older. Our goal is to provide our customers with a little piece of history at a price far less than actual authentic antiques would cost them. Each item is unique and we seldom create an identical copy of any one item.

We don’t sell the items online as such. We only sell through Craigslist locally and by word of mouth from repeat customers. If any of our readers would like to get a look at some of the items we have listed at any time on Craigslist, all they have to do is use the “search feature” on Craigslist and put in the “search term” ( 44441934 ). This will bring up a list of all the current items we have listed. The list changes frequently as item sell and new ones are added.

We’ve placed a few photos of just a few of the items below.

Updated Photos of Squash Patch Farm

I finally got around to posting some newer photos of the crops. These photos were taken early last week so most of the plants have grown more since then. Everything is in production (Summer Squash, Crookneck Squash, Acorn Squash, Butternut Squash, Armenian Cucumbers, Zucchini Squash, Sugar Snap Peas, Tomatoes and all three varieties of Peppers). So are the herbs (Dill, Basil, Sage, Rosemary, Lavendar & Thyme). The only crops that are not in production are the (Straight Cucumbers, Blue Lake Pole Beans, Kentucky Pole Beans & the Eggplant). These won't come into production for another couple of weeks.

Most of this years production will be taken (and will be taken) to various feeding programs around here in Chino Valley. The photos aren't in any particular order. Enjoy the photos.

Photos Of The Farm

We are just about a month into the growing season here and I thought I would upload a few photos of some of the farm. There is still a lot of plain dirt showing but by the end of June, what you are looking at will become a mass of green as the squash and other crops continue to grow. You can't see them in these photos but some of the peppers, tomatoes and zucchini squash are starting to produce already.

Today's Update

The last couple of week have been busy ones. Most of our seed is planted (acorn squash, butternut squash, summer squash, crookneck squash, zucchini squash, two variety of pole beans and the bush peas) and most of the seedlings (tomatoes, bell peppers, sweet long green chili peppers, eggplant and the rhubarb), still have a few of them to get in yet. We'll be posting some pictures once sprouting takes place.

For those readers unfamiliar with Squash Patch Farm, we are a ministry dedicated to helping feed the hungry as directed by our Lord in Matt. 25:35-40.

35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

Most of our crop production this year will go to the Harvest Project here in Chino Valley which will help distribute it to those in need not only in Chino but in other surrounding communities.

More later but we have to get back into the fields at present.
